AAUP-Oklahoma


This is the web site of the Oklahoma Conference of the American Association of University Professors. This site contains information about state AAUP events, initiatives, and members. AAUP-Oklahoma is the main advocate of the state's college faculty. We fight for raising faculty salaries and benefits, strengthening the tenure system, and ensuring freedom of academic speech on campus.

AAUP-OK Meets October 14, November 4

The next two meetings of the Oklahoma AAUP Executive Committee will take place October 14 at NSU-Broken Arrow and November 4 at Oklahoma City University . The meetings begin at 10 a.m. and are open to all members of the Oklahoma AAUP.

State AAUP Summer Institute On July 22

Please make your plans to attend the 2006 Oklahoma AAUP Summer Institute on the campus of Oklahoma City University in the Meinders School of Business in Room 107.

The institute will take place on Saturday July 22 from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The cost will be $6, which will cover the cost of lunch. The $6 will be due at the door the day of the event. If you haven’t already done so, you may register by sending a Tom Guild an e-mail at tomguild@sbcglobal.net indicating your plans to attend. We need to know how many will be in attendance before we order our lunches for the event.

The event will be co-sponsored by the Oklahoma AAUP and the Oklahoma City University AAUP Chapter.

We have invited our AAUP colleagues from several surrounding states to join us.

2006 AAUP State Conference Scheduled For April 8

AAUP's Oklahoma Conference will hold its annual state meeting on Saturday, April 8 at the University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond.

Titled, "Faculty Voices," the conference will feature panel discussions on faculty employment issues and evaluations. Other panels will feature discussion forums with college presidents and regents.

The conference kicks off with a 7 p.m. reception on Friday, April 7 at state AAUP President Amy Carrell's house in Edmond.

The main conference events will begin at 8:30 a.m. April 8 in the Virginia Lamb Living Room in the Human Environmental Sciences Building on UCO's campus.

AAUP-Oklahoma Establishes Legal Advocacy Fund

At its November 5 meeting, AAUP-Oklahoma established a Legal Advocacy Fund.

The fund will be used to help Oklahoma AAUP members defray legal expenses if they require an attorney in any action dealing with their job. AAUP members can request help through the AAUP-Oklahoma Executive Committee, which will determine how the money is rewarded to any individual.

AAUP-Oklahoma has made an initial $50 contribution to the fund and will add $50 every quarter. It now seek contributions from members and chapters throughout the state.

To contribute to the fund, send your check made out to AAUP-Oklahoma Legal Advocacy Fund to Treasuer Jean Thornbrugh, 337 East 29th Street, Tulsa, OK 74114-3904.

State Meeting Scheduled For September 10

Greetings!

The first State AAUP meeting will take place on
Saturday, 10 September, at 10:00 A.M. in room
216 of the Liberal Arts Building on the Univeristy of Central campus.

Please spread the word to your chapters, and please
send updated contact information (including for colleagues
at other schools) so that we can make sure emails reach
them.

Also please send agenda items to me as soon as you
can. We will be setting the 2005-06 meeting schedule,
so if you are willing to host a State meeting but cannot
attend this one, please let me know. Remember that
